What PEOPLE Say...

“Lindsay is quite simply a wonderful, inspired and inspiring teacher. She exemplifies everything I like about Iyengar yoga: she is really clear when explaining the poses, she encourages you, she challenges you. She is generous and demanding. It's never about how much she knows or can do; it's about you being as good as you can be, with the body you have, today. And she has a great sense of humour, too! However I might be feeling at the start of a class, I know I will feel 100% better by the end of it”.

“I have been practising Iyengar yoga for nearly two years with a variety of teachers. I have been attending Lindsay’s online classes for a couple of months now and I find her instructions really clear and informative and overall her style of teaching extremely soothing. Lindsay pays a lot of attention to the varying abilities of her students and is always quick to offer alternative asanas to those of us who are older/less flexible – I really appreciate this. I will keep attending as long as online classes are offered”

I had a seven year break from yoga having had two children and a slipped disc. I started Lindsay’s classes in London. She is an inspiring teacher with a huge amount of knowledge. My practice improved quickly with her skilled guidance and my lower back pain is almost gone. She has a lovely, kind, calming way of teaching and you leave her classes wonderfully calm and two centimetres taller!

HAVE A QUESTION?

What is Iyengar Yoga ?

Iyengar Yoga is named after B.K.S Iyengar, who was pivotal in bringing yoga to the west in the 1960’s. It is a traditional form of Hatha Yoga, respected worldwide for its understanding of physical movement, control of breathing and the consequent effects on the body and mind.

Classes are a slightly slower pace compared to other styles of yoga. This is to enable a clear teaching of instruction and understanding so students can learn and experience them correctly and safely giving them the maximum benefits.

Due to its direct roots from T. Krishnamacharya in India and B.K.S Iyengar’s depth of teaching, Iyengar yoga is one of the most practised in the world. It is suitable for anyone from a complete beginner to an experienced practitioner with decades of experience. Even Iyengar Yoga teachers continue as students. Iyengar Yoga is a continuous experiential path for everybody.

I have no yoga experience and very un-flexible. Will I be ok in a class?

If you have no experience in yoga it is absolutely fine. Please attend a “Level 1” class.

In Iyengar Yoga we clearly demonstrate and use equipment such as blocks, blankets, etc to help students experience yoga, regardless how much a student can move.

I am pregnant, can I come to your class?

If you are in stages of pregnancy and I have taught you before, I can teach you during your stages of pregnancy. If you have not come to classes with me before, sadly I cannot accept you as a student during pregnancy. A teacher with specialist training is advised, and I can assist you with finding an Iyengar Yoga teacher who can offer teaching for you.

I have experience in other styles of yoga, is this ok?

This is absolutely fine. Students very often come to Iyengar Yoga from other yoga backgrounds to deepen their practise and broaden their knowledge of yoga. Please attend a “Level 1” class first, so I can see your practise before attending any other classes.

Within asana (yoga postures) there will be more instructions given than you are likely used to. Take what you can to greaten your own practise. It is advised to attend regularly so you develop an imprint of what’s being taught to you, to continue with in your own yoga practise.

What happens in a typical Iyengar Yoga class?

In Iyengar Yoga, classes are a slightly slower pace compared to some other styles of yoga. This is to enable a clear teaching of demonstration, instruction and understanding.

Yoga postures are often taught individually so students can learn and experience them correctly and safely. Postures then will connect to one another with breathing and movement, known as the Vinyasa aspect of Yoga.

Learning and experiencing each of the postures in their sacred forms are a greater focus in an Iyengar Yoga class, rather than the consistent movement between them commonly found in other flowing styles of yoga you see today.

What happens if I book a class but do not receive a confirmation?

Contact me and inform me if this happens. If you have booked a class, you will be on the system, and your place is reserved. If there is a problem in the system I can send you a confirmation separately.
