LEARN YOGA AT HOME

I teach an online livestream class from a beautiful Yoga studio called Soulfit, in the heart of Lewes, East Sussex.

The class is hybrid, meaning I am also teaching in real life inside the studio to students in the room. Online streaming allows students who are not local to Lewes, UK to participate elsewhere. Students who are local are advised to attend the class in-person.

The class is Level 1 – suitable for complete beginners to general level. If you are a first timer to yoga and a complete beginner with a lot of stiffness and limited movment – you are very welcome! The Tuesday class is an open door for complete beginners.

HAVE A QUESTION?

What is Iyengar Yoga ?

Iyengar Yoga is named after B.K.S Iyengar, who was pivotal in bringing yoga to the west in the 1960’s. It is a traditional form of Hatha Yoga, respected worldwide for its understanding of physical movement, control of breathing and the consequent effects on the body and mind.

Classes are a slightly slower pace compared to other styles of yoga. This is to enable a clear teaching of instruction and understanding so students can learn and experience them correctly and safely giving them the maximum benefits.

Due to its direct roots from T. Krishnamacharya in India and B.K.S Iyengar’s depth of teaching, Iyengar yoga is one of the most practised in the world. It is suitable for anyone from a complete beginner to an experienced practitioner with decades of experience. Even Iyengar Yoga teachers continue as students. Iyengar Yoga is a continuous experiential path for everybody.

I have no yoga experience and very un-flexible. Will I be ok in a class?

If you have no experience in yoga it is absolutely fine. Please attend an ‘All Levels’ class where I can teach for your level.

In Iyengar Yoga we clearly demonstrate and use equipment such as blocks, blankets, etc to help students experience yoga, regardless how much a student can move.

I am worried about other people seeing me on screen, will I be visible?

The beauty of online classes is that students who feel nervous going to a yoga studio, can feel comfortable in their own home. During the class I am large on everybody’s screen, so no students can see you.

I have experience in other styles of yoga, is this ok?

This is absolutely fine. Students very often come to Iyengar Yoga from other yoga backgrounds to deepen their practise and broaden their knowledge of yoga.

Within asana (yoga postures) there will be more instructions given than you are likely used to. Take what you can to greaten your own practise.

It is advised to attend regularly so you develop an imprint of what’s being taught to you, to continue with in your own yoga practise.

What happens in a typical Iyengar Yoga class?

In Iyengar Yoga, classes are a slightly slower pace compared to some other styles of yoga. This is to enable a clear teaching of demonstration, instruction and understanding.

Yoga postures are often taught individually so students can learn and experience them correctly and safely. Postures then will connect to one another with breathing and movement, known as the Vinyasa aspect of Yoga.

Learning and experiencing each of the postures in their sacred forms are a greater focus in an Iyengar Yoga class, rather than the consistent movement between them commonly found in other flowing styles of yoga you see today.

What happens if I book a class but do not receive a confirmation?

Contact me and inform me if this happens. If you have booked a class, you will be on the system, and your place is reserved. If there is a problem in the system I can send you a confirmation separately.

I am pregnant, can I come to your class?

If you are in stages of pregnancy and I have taught you before, I can teach you during your stages of pregnancy. If you have not come to classes with me before, sadly I cannot accept you as a student during pregnancy. A teacher with specialist training is advised, and I can assist you with finding an Iyengar Yoga teacher who can offer teaching for you.
