Iyengar Yoga
(General Level + Intermediate)
Lewes Subud Centre, Lewes

This class is suitable for students who have some experience of yoga. This class sadly isn’t suitable for complete beginners.

This is a general level to intermediate level class, where familiar yoga postures are taught and instructions are given to deepen your understanding and practise.  Inversions and the preparation of inversions will be taught. If a student wishes not to practise inversions for their own reasons, alternative beneficial postures are offered.

This class is held at the new Lewes Subud Centre, in the Pells area of Lewes. An exciting development! On Saturdays, “Slack Sauna” operate in the centre courtyard for sauna offerings after the class. Please go to www.slacksauna.com if you wish to book a sauna in these winter months!

Lots of yoga equipment will be provided at the studio, however if possible please bring a yoga mat, x2 bricks and a bolster if you own them.

Capacity : 14 people

£15.00 per class

Note: If a date isn’t showing to book, the class is sadly fully booked.
I have finished teaching for Christmas, classes will return on 4th January.

If you cannot afford a full price for a class due to financial difficulty, please contact me. Yoga is inclusive and a contribution can be made as payment.

What people say...

“Lindsay is quite simply a wonderful, inspired and inspiring teacher. She exemplifies everything I like about Iyengar yoga: she is really clear when explaining the poses, she encourages you, she challenges you. She is generous and demanding. It's never about how much she knows or can do; it's about you being as good as you can be, with the body you have, today. And she has a great sense of humour, too! However I might be feeling at the start of a class, I know I will feel 100% better by the end of it”.

I had a seven year break from yoga having had two children and a slipped disc. I started Lindsay’s classes in London. She is an inspiring teacher with a huge amount of knowledge. My practice improved quickly with her skilled guidance and my lower back pain is almost gone. She has a lovely, kind, calming way of teaching and you leave her classes wonderfully calm and two centimetres taller!

"Iyengar yoga has been a part of my life for years. Lindsay’s teaching has deepened my practice, brought new awareness to familiar asanas, and built both strength and courage in ways I could not have imagined. She teaches with dynamic focus on individual needs whilst creating a calm and warm atmosphere for the class. She brings lightness and humour with extensive knowledge and rigour. I love her classes!"

Have a question?

What is Iyengar Yoga ?

Iyengar Yoga is named after B.K.S Iyengar, who was pivotal in bringing yoga to the west in the 1960’s. It is a traditional form of Hatha Yoga, respected worldwide for its understanding of physical movement, control of breathing and the consequent effects on the body and mind.

Classes are a slightly slower pace compared to other styles of yoga. This is to enable a clear teaching of instruction and understanding so students can learn and experience them correctly and safely giving them the maximum benefits.

Due to its direct roots from T. Krishnamacharya in India and B.K.S Iyengar’s depth of teaching, Iyengar yoga is one of the most practised in the world. It is suitable for anyone from a complete beginner to an experienced practitioner with decades of experience. Even Iyengar Yoga teachers continue as students. Iyengar Yoga is a continuous experiential path for everybody.

I have no yoga experience and very un-flexible. Will I be ok in a class?

In Iyengar Yoga we clearly demonstrate and use equipment such as blocks, blankets, etc to help students experience yoga, regardless how much a student can move. There are multiple classes in Lewes suitable for beginners, however sadly my Saturday class some experience is needed.

I am pregnant, can I come to your class?

If you are in stages of pregnancy and I have taught you before, I can teach you during your stages of pregnancy. If you have not come to classes with me before, sadly I cannot accept you as a student during pregnancy. A teacher with specialist training is advised, and I can assist you with finding an Iyengar Yoga teacher who can offer teaching for you.

I have experience in other styles of yoga, is this ok?

This is absolutely fine. Students very often come to Iyengar Yoga from other yoga backgrounds to deepen their practise and broaden their knowledge of yoga.

Within asana (yoga postures) there will be more instructions given than you are likely used to. Take what you can to greaten your own practise. It is advised to attend regularly so you develop an imprint of what’s being taught to you.

What happens in a typical Iyengar Yoga class?

In Iyengar Yoga, classes are a slightly slower pace compared to some other styles of yoga. This is to enable a clear teaching of demonstration, instruction and understanding.

Yoga postures are often taught individually so students can learn and experience them correctly and safely. Postures then will connect to one another with breathing and movement, known as the Vinyasa aspect of Yoga.

Learning and experiencing each of the postures in their sacred forms are a greater focus in an Iyengar Yoga class, rather than the consistent movement between them commonly found in other flowing styles of yoga you see today.

What happens if I book a class but do not receive a confirmation?

Contact me and inform me if this happens. If you have booked a class, you will be on the system, and your place is reserved. If there is a problem in the system I can send you a confirmation separately.
